Family Dinner

My most favorite time of the day is dinner time. It is the time that Jake, Samantha, Cameron and I get to sit, talk and eat. From the very beginning when it was just Jake and I we made it a goal to eat dinner together at the table with no TV and no phones. I love that we have kept that goal going and we eat dinner around the table all four of us at least 5 nights a week. Family dinner is a time that you can truly push the world out of your life and focus on just the important things, like when Samantha tells us that her kitty ran away, or that she loves her daddy very much, or that Cameron is her favorite brother, ever. I love as Samantha and Cameron are getting older that it is not longer just Jake and I having the conversation. Between Samantha and Cameron, Jake and I can barely get a word in, and I would have it no other way. Tonight at dinner Jake broke a glass, I dropped the nesquik powder and Samantha and Cameron spilled a bag of rice, but it was at those moments that as a family we grew closer together. And as our children grow up and become older they will know that dinner time is family time.

My Garden

Here is the start of my garden. I love fresh fruits and vegetables, I love to eat them, but I also love to cook with them. What we are planting this year: Two kinds of pumpkin, eggplant, zucchini, two kinds of cucumber, three kinds of peppers and watermelon. We have yet to add tomatoes, peas, beans and for mother’s day I have asked for an herb garden. I can't wait to see these little seedlings start to sprout.

Someone to look up to...

If I could pick a hero for Cameron to look up to and follow, this is who it would have to be...

Preston is the most amazing, mature young man I have ever known.  Cameron loves him and so do the rest of us.

Happy Cleaning

Let’s just say that I am not the neatest person in the world. I would do the "everyday" pick up that has to be done with kids and then call it quits. I hated doing laundry, notice how that is past tense? I didn't like to sweep, mop or vacuum. But now, now that I have kept up on the house cleaning, call it nesting or whatever you want, but for me I call it "happy cleaning". Happy cleaning because there is a huge difference in my attitude and in the attitude of Jake and the kids. We are much more organized, cheerful and relaxed. It’s hard to relax when there are things that need to be done. There is no more looking through four different laundry baskets just to find a pair of socks. I now fold and put away the laundry as it comes out of the dryer. I love it. I would wash laundry every day, but never would I fold it and put it away on the same day. Then when it got to be so bad I would fold all of it in one day and that would take hours, now it just take minutes. Thanks to my mom and yes Jake who all along has said, "If you just do it and keep up on it, it will save you time, energy and stress". So now I have a happy home all to "happy cleaning". And if you are ever in the neighborhood and stop to say hi I will invite you in, because my home is a happy clean home.
